When a spotted moose unexpectedly started charging me, I fled to the nearest tree.
This tactic works on all animals: As long as you time it, the animal can run around the tree indefinitely. I don't recommend doing it with wolves, though, as they turn faster. Generally speaking, it is a high risk strategy and I only use the tree-dodging technique when I am unexpectedly attacked or cornered from a bear or moose.
