Today's NSF Live is happening on-site at the Intrepid Museum in NYC as part of the museum's Friday Free Astronomy Night. This month, its a panel discussion about art in space, featuring former NASA astronaut Nicole Stott and Inspiration4 astronaut Dr. Sian Proctor. The conversation will be moderated by former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino in the Space Shuttle Pavilion aboard the museum.
Today's show is hosted by John Galloway of NSF and Elysia Segal of Intrepid Museum.

Participants:
Nicole Stott is an astronaut, aquanaut, artist, mom, and now author of her first book Back to Earth What Life In Space Taught Me About Our Home Planet – And Our Mission To Protect It. She creatively combines the awe and wonder of her spaceflight experience with her artwork to inspire everyone’s appreciation of our role as crewmates here on Spaceship Earth. Nicole is a veteran NASA Astronaut with two spaceflights and 104 days as a crew member on both the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle. Personal highlights of her time in space include performing a spacewalk (10th woman to do so), flying the robotic arm to capture the first HTV, working with her international crew in support of the multi-disciplinary science onboard the orbiting laboratory, painting a watercolor (now on display at the Intrepid Museum and Smithsonian Air and Space Museum), and of course the life-changing view of our home planet.
Dr. Sian Proctor is a geoscientist, explorer, space artist, and astronaut. She is the mission pilot for the Inspiration4 all-civilian orbital mission to space. She is also one of The Explorer’s Club 50: Fifty People Changing the World. Her motto is called Space2inspire where she encourages people to use their unique, one-of-a-kind strengths, and passion to inspire those within their reach and beyond. She believes that we need to actively strive for a J.E.D.I. space: a just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive space as we advance human spaceflight.
Mike Massimino is a former NASA astronaut and currently a professor of mechanical engineering at Columbia University in New York City. He has flown in space twice, each time making two spacewalks on repair and servicing missions of the Hubble Space Telescope. Massimino appeared as himself on six episodes of the hit show, The Big Bang Theory. His autobiography Spaceman was recently adapted and released for young readers. Massimino is the senior advisor of space programs at the Intrepid Museum. For more visit mikemassimino.com.
