I show you how to add a cool hammer/glassbreaker pommel to a Glock Field Knife, further increasing its usefulness.
Thanks to the added weight of the bolt, the knife gains in heft. I haven't tried throwing it, you may need to alter your technique.
This mod doesn't cost much and can be done in under an hour.
Instead of gun blue you could use black paint such as Hammerite, Durakote or Cerakote which are all very durable.
And if you still want to keep things in the handle, you can shorten the bolt to 10mm-15mm and cut a shorter thread in the handle tube.
And finally if you want to go back to the original plastic stopper you can.
Material required:
1 Steel Bolt M14 x 30mm long
M14 thread cutter
Glock Field Knife
Gun Blue
Method: Remove the plastic end plug from the Glock Field Knife
Cut a thread as deep as possible in the metal tube which is inside the handle.
Treat bolt as desired (removing type marks, removing zinc plating on head)
Apply gun blue to bolt head according to gun blue instructions.
Screw bolt into knife handle.
Voilà!
In the video I mention a commercially available knife that also has hexagonal metal pommel: this is the Schrade Extreme Survival SCHF2SM which contains a bit-holder in the handle.
