(11 Jun 2012) Men representing the devil, known as Colachos, leapt over young babies on Sunday, in an ancient Spanish religious festival designed to chase out bad spirits.
El Salto del Colacho or The Jump of the Colacho takes place every year in the village of Castrillo de Murcia, near Burgos, northern Spain.
"There were rules and regulations that were written before but existing records are from 1621 and every year it changes itself a little because that's what life expects," explained one man at the festival.
The babies are all under one year old.
"I was in touch with a few friends who are from here and I thought why not? If the tradition says that it removes bad spirits, well we have nothing to lose," said the mother of one of the babies.
This festival is meant to represent the triumph of Christianity over evil, and takes place on the feast of Corpus Christi.
