I'm no fan of reducing domestic food production, re-wilding, or creating a national park for everyone to walk all over. The UK simply isn't big enough to set aside huge swaths of land for bears and beavers.
BUT! with the current uncertainty of making anything resembling a living from agriculture at the moment, and bearing in mind my dads requirements for paying his bills, Taking some of our land out of active production for three years, and getting paid for it, seems to be a bit of a no brainer, no matter how much I dislike it.
