Welcome to the château de Saché.
With this special place, you get double the enjoyment: learning about Honoré de Balzac's life and work, and discovering how affluent families lived in the Touraine in the 19th century.
Balzac, living the life of a stressed-out Parisian, was always welcomed here, by the Margone family, who were friends of his parents. He spent long days working in his small room on the second floor, fueled by bottomless pots of coffee he had shipped especially from the French capital.
Inspired by his native Touraine, he was a prolific writer while on the Saché grounds where he returned often until 1848, two years before his death.
I hope you enjoy your visit, a special reward for France with Véro Patrons at the "Flâneur" and "les Copains" levels.

ERRATUM 1: Tour starts on the (European) first floor of the building, then moves on to the second floor (where Balzac's room was,) and ends on the main/ground floor where the boutique and ticket office are located.
ERRATUM 2: the famous intersection where Rodin's controversial statue of Balzac is located in Paris' 14th arrondissement, is, of course, "Carrefour Vavin." :-)
