Cedar plank salmon is our go-to for a quick and delicious meal. Topped with a blue agave and butter glaze, it’s sure to please everyone.

Grill: Large Big Green Egg
Cedar: Plank from Home Depot
I start by charring the cedar plank over the charcoal. Speaking of which, get your wood from a local home improvement store. Specialty marked “Grilling” cedar planks are more expensive and it’s the same thing as getting a cedar board from Home Depot and asking them to cut it to size. So char up one side, get it nice and black and put the salmon, skin down, on the plank.
Season it with the Holy Voodoo rub, or really any spicy seasoning that you might have, and put it on the grill. I like to cook my salmon between 300-325. While the salmon is cooking melt a ½ stick of unsalted butter and add about ¼ cup agave syrup. You can substitute the agave with honey or maple syrup. I just like the different flavor that you get from using agave.
When the salmon hits 110-115 internal, pour the butter and agave mixture over the fish. BE CAREFUL, the fire will flare up when the butter hits the charcoal. If it does, just the close the lid to the grill and it will go out. Oh yeah, don’t forget to add a couple slices of lemon and lime to the salmon.
Continue cooking until it hits 125 internal. Pull from the grill, let it rest about 10 minutes inside, and ENJOY!
The combo of sweet and spicy goes great with the salmon. The best part is that my kids love it, which is a win win in my book.
Thanks for watching!
