You can’t correctly answer a bar exam question when you aren’t sure what is being asked, and you’re likely to waste time on irrelevant facts and information. First, wrap your head around what is being asked before diving into the details. Skip to the end and spend a little bit of time with the call of the question – whether it’s on the MPT, MBE or essay portion of the bar exam. That will help you remain focused on the actual question at hand and, ultimately, raise your score.
Many law students forget this and jump right in without identifying and fully understanding the call of the question. The “call of the question” is your roadmap of where you are being asked to go. It will give you solid up-front direction for what to key on when analyzing the facts of the question. Using this roadmap will enhance your ability to quickly answer questions and will maximize your scores on essays and multiple choice questions.
