Holbrooke SOT: "We have just concluded a very very useful talk
with President Milosevic. Firstly, we expressed our high concern
on behalf on the United States and France that the two French
pilots held by Bosnian Serbs must be released as soon as possible
and we asked for information on that. It would not be desirable to
go into details of the conversation, but we attached highest
importance to the issue. Secondly, we discussed the forthcoming
signing ceremony in Paris - we look forward to that event. It
will be critical in the transition from war to peace - today in
the Balkans we don't have war and we don't have real peace and
Paris is a final transition. Finally, we talked about the question
on Sarajevo at considerable length. We brought to President
Milosevic's attention our talks yesterday with President
Izetbegovich that he will try to reassure the Serbs of Sarajevo
that they can live in peace, and they are free to move throughout
the country, as are all citizens of Bosnia-Hercegovina. President
Milosevic stressed to us the very high importance he attaches to
that issue. We believe assurances to the Serb population in
Sarajevo is of the highest importance and both President Milosevic
and Izetbegovic shared that view. And in the days ahead we will be
looking for other ways to assure the people of Bosnia and the
people of Sarajevo.
