Basil II ruled the Byzantine (Eastern Roman) Empire from 976 to 1025 CE. He is perhaps best-remembered for his conquest of Bulgar territory, which secured the empire's eastern border, along with his campaigns against the Fatimid Caliphate, the Khazars, and the Kingdom of Georgia.
