In this video we’ll the control belt in your Tascam 244 cassette four track.
The control belt is part of a system which responds to the transport controls, by raising and lowering the magnetic heads and pinch roller, and controlling which of the two tape reels the idler motor rotates.
If this belt is missing, you will often hear a buzzing sound come from your 244.
So long as the old belt hasn’t turned into tar, you can change this belt without removing the cassette transport module from the chassis.
This is the fifth video in a how-to course showing the replacement of belts and other rubber parts (e.g. the pinch roller and idler tires) on the Tascam 244 Portastudio 4 track, as well as cleaning and demagnetising the unit.
