🚶♂️LIMPING (ANTALGIC GAIT)AFTER A LEG INJURY🚶♂️
⁉️Why do we walk like this after an injury?
🧠Our brain is smart.
✅To avoid further pain and injury worsening, we unconsciously modify our gait pattern in order to minimize time spent on the ground (stance phase).
✅See when you walk, the movement is divided between the stance (60%, foot on the ground) and the swing (40%, foot in the air) phase.
✅Normally, when you land you land on your heel, load through your mid foot and push off your toes until the knee and hip bend and ankle dorsiflexes to clear the floor to enter the SWING PHASE.
✅BUT, when we have an injury, like an ankle sprain, we try to spend as LITTLE time as possible on the ground.
✅So we rotate our hips outwards, land in the middle of the foot and come off quickly to avoid going through the heel, mid foot, toe pattern.
