In 1921, a pandemic swept the united states. Smallpox was ravaging the country with no way to stop or slow it down. Smallpox was killing hundreds by the day.
At the same time, a man named Cotton Mather purchased a slave Onesimus. The slave owner did not trust Onesimus but understand Onesimus level of intellgence. Onesimus omce told Mather thay he himself had smallpox..and then it went away..like magic.
Mather was perplexed my this tale. Was it magic? Was it God giving magical powers to slaves?
Onesimus described the process of rubbing the pus from the infected onto the skin of someone healthy. They would get a weaker version of smallpox and their body will gain a defense against it.
So as Mather took this idea across the states, many recovered from smallpox until it was eradicated in completely through vaccinations in 1980. a slave in 1721 invented the process of vaccinations and saved millions over the course of 200 years.
