Many new parents come to parenting with certain expectations of themselves as parents, and how parenting will look in their new family. The reality is often quite different. For some new parents, the shock of expectations not being met, and adjusting to the new reality, can have negative impacts on their mental health.

It’s understandable to want to be the very best parent you can be. However you also need to be kind to yourself. You don’t need to instantly respond to your baby’s every need, at all times. If you can meet your baby’s needs enough of the time, they will learn that they are safe and loved. This video illustrates why parenting ‘perfection’ is neither possible, nor what our children really need, and why good enough parenting is great parenting.
