In this video first shown on Medscape Cardiology, Mayo Clinic electrophysiologists Douglas L. Packer, M.D., Thomas M. Munger, M.D., and Peter A. Noseworthy, M.D., discuss the outcomes, strengths and limitations of the Catheter Ablation versus Anti-arrhythmic Drug Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation (CABANA) Trial.
The CABANA trial was one of the largest and most highly anticipated ablation trials ever done, enrolling 2,200 patients. The goal was to compare drug therapy with catheter ablation in patients with atrial fibrillation to determine the best treatment approach. CABANA showed that ablation is significantly better than drug therapy for preventing the recurrence of atrial fibrillation.
