At around 9.30am local time an initial barrage of two suspected Taliban rockets landed inside the wire at FOB Wilson. The first rocket landed harmlessly in an open area but the second hit an ammunition storage tent setting it ablaze. Startled soldiers who came out of the shower block which was adjacent to the tent, to see what happened after the first impact immediately ran for cover in the shelters, when the second rocket landed right next to them. They were saved from injury by the massive blast walls that wall off the ammo tent. It took some thirty minutes for the blaze to be brought under control and just as it was dying down another two rockets landed inside the wire. No injuries were reported.
Rocket attacks by the Taliban on FOB Wilson have been a common occurrence, but usually occur in the late afternoon or evening; This is the first rocket attack in the morning and personnel on the base are now required to wear protective gear.
In response to this attack the Americans this afternoon started firing their artillery.
