In this adventure, I explore Mono Lake from a Kayak! Mono Lake is the most unique lake in the Eastern Sierra's due to the Tufa Towers which are tall limestone towers that grow under water when calcium rich fresh water springs interact with the carbonate rich lake water. Because the lake water has receded, due in part to LADWP redirecting the water flow to southern California, the towers are now visible. Sadly once the towers are no longer covered by water they stop growing and will erode over time. Mono Lake is also a home for more than 2 million birds (including the Osprey) due the billions of brine shrimp and alkali flies that flourish in this eco system. This was one of the most peaceful and beautiful adventures I have ever had!
