Y-20 is the latest Chinese transport aircraft.
A new video shows Y-20 launching flares, an aerial infrared countermeasure.
The video demonstrates Y-20 is equipped to the standard of carry out combat missions.
And of course many Chinese military aircrafts are equipped with flares.
And Y-20 transport aircraft has carried out overseas long-range missions, including European part of Russia.
That also means Y-20 definitely need self-defense methods such as infrared countermeasures.
Flares create strong infrared signal to confuse or overrun infrared sensors in missiles.
Flares are packaged and launched from bee comb like launchers. Flares are often composed of a pyrotechnic composition based on hot-burning metal, like magnesium.
And of course many Chinese military aircrafts are equipped with flares, similar to what Y-20 transport aircraft carries. Like J-20 fighter, the advanced Chinese 5th gen stealth fighter jet. And JH-7 attack fighter, J-11 and J-16 fighters. Helicopters like Z-19 in Chinese Army also carry flares.
Chinese Army have a few vehicle based countermeasure systems, quite often launching flares.
Chinese Navy ships are also heavily equipped with flares in the intergraded countermeasure systems.
And it would be interesting to see how the latest Chinese stealth fighter J-35 will arrange flares.
As J-35 has a smaller body comparing J-20, but still require stealth design.
Y-20 transport aircraft is now completing routine missions for Chinese military branches.
Y-20 is not only transporting cargos. In Nov 2021 its aerial refuel variant flew close to Taiwan.
