A key and distinctive aspect of flamenco guitar technique is the use of the alzapua in your picking hand. The basic mechanism is a triplet movement with the thumb but can be combined with hammer ons and pull offs to create sixteenth note subdivisions.
The secret is to keep the hand as still as possible to maintain control at high speeds. Try using your middle finger to rest on or near the first string to increase stability in the right hand. I try and keep my index finger tucked in too so I have total focus on the thumb movement.
