Sorry its been so long, but nice to be back and tinkering . .
In this video, i'm restoring this neglected Billhook Garden knife/cleaver/machete.
Its been sitting around for sometime, pretty rusty, thick and heavy.
As you can see from the pumpkin chop, not much of an edge.
Certainly a few 'learning curves' on this one, failed wood, failed welds and dicey polishing near miss.
Spent some time using Electrolysis to blast to remove a lot of the rust, over 30 hours.
Bit of powder coating, why not.
Tried Staghorn Sumac wood, which can be great for carving, but not in this instance.
So plan B, which i've been reliably informed was Oak. Finished with some danish oil to bring the grain out.
Followed by many hours of grinding/sanding and finishing.
I've left the weird hole in the side, we'll call it 'character for now'. And will practise welding in the mean time.
Overall, much improved from what it was before. It may not be perfect, but a lot of work to achieve this usable item for a few years to come. I hope you enjoy the before and after.
Sincerely, thanks for watching, I appreciate the views and comments. Feel free to like & subscribe, if not, that's also cool. . . It all helps us smaller channels...
