(7 Jan 2014) Orthodox Christians in the Gaza Strip celebrated Christmas on Tuesday.
The Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas day on 7 January because they follow the Julian Calendar, which was replaced in Western Europe by the Gregorian calendar over 400 years ago.
Bishop Alexius of the Roman Orthodox Church in Gaza lead the prayers on Tuesday.
Approximately 1,800 Gazan Christians live alongside around 1.7 million (m) Muslims in the Gaza Strip, which has been controlled by Hamas since June 2007.
