When should you share past relationships with a significant other or someone you are dating? Should you open up and talk about your exes and past relationships with a new partner? I'm helping you out with these questions on when is the the time to talk about past relationships and how to talk about exes without endangering the new relationship. There are several guidelines on how to talk about past relationships when dating:
1. Keep it positive in the beginning. When you first meet & start dating someone new, you should not be negative or talk about past relationships at all.
2. Don't speak about your exes in glowing terms! If you were meant to be with them, you wouldn't be dating the new person. Leave the past in the past.
3. Speak objectively about facts, not your opinions about your ex.
4. Don't ever try to diagnose your exes. You are the common denominator in all your relationships, so don't call them names or play psychologist.
5. Take responsibility for your own mistakes and faults, and talk about what you've learned. Process what you've learned from the past so that you can honestly assure your partner that you won't make those mistakes again with them.
