Theresa May and Jean-Claude Juncker - usually known for his exuberant touchy-feely style - stood grim-faced next to each other before disappearing for private talks. The premier is desperately scrambling to wring more concessions on the Irish border backstop that could get her deal past MPs. But EU leaders seem in no mood to compromise, after Mr Juncker insisted the Withdrawal Agreement will not be reopened - and Donald Tusk jibed that there is a 'special place in Hell' for Brexiteers. The vicious barbs have set the stage for a potentially explosive round of meetings for Mrs May - with Mr Juncker first on her list. Speculation is mounting that the premier will put off a make-or-break vote on her revamped package until the end of the month - raising the stakes as the UK is due to crash out at the end of March. Mrs May's trip this morning was immediately thrown into turmoil as a demonstrator with a placard saying 'don't crash out' jumped in front of her convoy.
