HEADLINE: Ready for a flood? Dutch man builds ark
CAPTION: A Dutch contractor has built a replica of the Biblical Noah's Ark. Johan Huibers says he hopes it will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands, where churchgoing has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years. (April 29)
If you've ever wondered what the Biblical Noah's Ark might have looked like -- a Dutch contractor has got quite a treat for you.
[Notes:shots of different animal repllicas]
He's built one that's pretty similar .. And it's even filled with all kinds of animals... Sort of.
The builder says the whole idea came about from a dream he had back in 1992 about the Netherlands being flooded.
The next day he got a book about Noah's Ark, and since then he's been hoping to build a replica.
After nearly two years of construction -- the ark is now open to visitors.
Some say, climate change could make an ark practical again.
SOT: "Just a few weeks ago we saw Al Gore on television in Holland saying that all Holland will be flooded and so this fits right in. I don't think the man who made this ever expected that global warning would become an issue and that suddenly having an ark would be meaningful in the middle of the Netherlands".
This ark is two-thirds the length of a football field, and as high as a three-story house.
If you think that's big, think about this ... The ark described in the Bible would have been 5 times bigger.
