How to Write an Introductory Paragraph (Thesis Statement) Quickly
In this Q&A, I’ll show you how to write a short thesis statement (opening paragraph) very quickly. Adenike (my subscriber) is asking: “Can I get help in writing introductory (opening) paragraphs on these topics I am working on?" And here are the topics.
Topic 1: City schools are more advantageous than village schools.

So, I will show you how to handle Topic 1 in this video, and I’ll talk about the other essay topics on my blog (links to be posted above - under the topics). I’ll assume that these are essay prompts for very short, 300 word essays. And I’ll show you how quickly you can actually put together your opening paragraph.
For a three hundred word essay, the opening paragraph should be no longer than forty to fifty words. And let’s tackle Topic 1. If you’re not familiar with the power of three, it’s essentially a technique or a rule of thumb that says, if you’re not sure, divide into three.
Again, Topic 1 is: City schools are more advantageous than village schools. Now, using the power of three, all we need to do is find three ways in which city schools are better than village schools. So let’s think of them one by one.
First, I’m thinking that city schools would probably have better technology, such as smart boards, the internet, and so on. Second, I’m thinking that city schools may have better libraries. And finally, city schools may have more teachers.
And we have everything we need to put together the opening paragraph. First, the main point. City schools are more advantageous than village schools, in three ways. And now the rest of the paragraph: “City schools have access to more advanced technology, such as the internet and smart boards. They usually boast more extensive libraries. And they often have more teachers who specialize in different subjects.”
And guess what - we have just completed our opening paragraph and we have forty three words in it!
