IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is commonly known as test tube baby. It is a medical procedure overcome infertility problem in both male and female. The first IVF baby, Louise brown was born in year 1978 in London.

An IVF cycle starts after thorough test of both partners. The female is given injections and medicines for 10-15 days to stimulate her ovaries in order to develop good quality and quantity of eggs. With help of sonography, the development of eggs is monitored. The developed eggs are retrieved under the guidance of sonogram while keeping the woman sedated.

After retrieval, the eggs are brought in contact with male partner sperms to facilitate fertilization. As the result of fertilization, embryo is formed which after 2-5 days of nurturing in the lab is implanted back to female’s uterus. After implantation, the embryo attaches itself to the uterine lining and pregnancy occurs.

In natural pregnancy, the process of fertilization happens inside the fallopian tubes. This is the only difference between IVF and natural pregnancy. All the other thing remains except fertilization of embryo in IVF remains same as natural pregnancy.
