STORYLINE
The Serbian Orthodox Church enthroned its new leader, Patriarch Irinej, a moderate who has recently called for better ties with Roman Catholics.
The ceremony was held early on Saturday at Belgrade''s Cathedral Church.
It was attended by the church elders, state officials, representatives of other religious groups and dozens of worshippers.
Patriarch Irinej, 80, was elected to the post Friday in a lottery-like draw among three candidates who were initially chosen in a secret ballot by 45 bishops.
Irinej - the 45th Serbian patriarch - is considered a compromise candidate after a power struggle within the influential church between hard-liners and liberals over who would succeed Patriarch Pavle, who died last November after a long illness.
