Point 1- People take education for granted
Subpoint 1- In the United States both men and women have the opportunity to a free education up until the end of high school. Most states actually require children to stay in school until they turn sixteen years old and some states require children to stay longer.
Subpoint 2- Many people do not wake up in the morning feeling blessed to go to school. Also a lot of people do not realize that in the United States we are lucky to have an education because in some countries education is not offered, and is sometimes illegal for women.
Point 2- In some countries children have never had an education at all
Subpoint 1- According to the Guardian almost 70 million children across the world do not have an education or are prevented an education usually because of the amount of money that the countries have. About 35 million girls are unable to get the education they deserve.
Subpoint 2- I watched a ted talk about a young woman growing up in Afghanistan. I did some more research and found that Afghanistan is one of the hardest countries to grow up being a woman. Nine out of ten women are illiterate. Only about 40% of Afghan girls attend elementary school and one in 20 girls attend school beyond 6th grade. The reason why these numbers are so low is because the girls and the families of these girls face death threats every day on their way to and from school. Women in Afghanistan are also not allowed to attend school with boys. Most young girls in Afghanistan are forced into planned marriages at a young age which eliminates their chance to an education.
Point 3- People around the globe need to support women’s education
Subpoint 1- In the ted talk that I watched the young woman’s family fully supported her getting an education despite the danger that they were facing. Her family helped disguise her as boy so she could go to school. If more people were aware of what they could do to help young girls go to school then I think it would be easier to complete.
Subpoint 2- We should make efforts through the media to show the corrupt society that the women live in. People will then become informed and then want women to receive equal rights in education.
