In the dwindling days of summer 2023, the automotive world welcomed the arrival of the 2024 Mustang, ushering in its seventh generation, the S650, and setting a new benchmark in the sports car domain, outperforming the previous S550 model. With a starting price tag of $31,000 for the EcoBoost Fastback version, this model presents a stark contrast in pricing when compared to its European counterpart, which is listed at €59,900 in Germany, equivalent to around $64,645 at the current exchange rates.
To put things into perspective, it's crucial to compare the pricing of the 2024 Ford Mustang GT Fastback in the US with that of its European variant. The European market skips the 315-hp EcoBoost model, opting instead for the higher-tier Mustang GT and Dark Horse versions. The US price for the Mustang GT Fastback kicks off at $42,710, a figure significantly lower than the Dark Horse's price in Europe, which sits at €72,500 or just over $78,000, a substantial leap from its $59,485 manufacturer's suggested retail price in the US. Unlike in some US markets where prices can fluctuate above MSRP, European prices tend to remain more stable, with discounts being more common than price markups.
A key distinction for the European models lies in the adjustment of the Coyote V8 engine's power. While the American versions boast up to 486 hp and 500 hp for the GT and Dark Horse respectively, the European versions see a reduction to 446 hp (328 kW) and 448 hp (334 kW). However, European enthusiasts can still choose the Tremec six-speed manual transmission, with the option to upgrade to a ten-speed automatic transmission for an additional €3,000 ($3,239). Both the Fastback coupe and Convertible variants have made their way to European shores, likely contributing to the Mustang's continued dominance in the global sports car market, including a boost from European sales.
The European version mirrors its American counterpart, featuring a dynamic redesign and a cockpit that takes inspiration from jet planes, complete with dual displays, SYNC 4 technology, and user-friendly touch and swipe controls powered by Unreal Engine software. Jon Williams, the general manager of Ford Blue Europe, remarked, "The new Mustang fulfills all the expectations associated with an iconic automobile, further enhanced by innovative connected technology that will attract new generations of drivers."
The latest Mustang available in Europe comes equipped with a high-quality B&O sound system, a 12.4-inch instrument display, and a 13.2-inch central screen. It includes an Active Exhaust system, a standard Performance Package with Brembo brakes, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a limited-slip differential, with the option to add a MagneRide suspension system. Additionally, it introduces a new Blue Ember metallic paint option, accented with Indigo Blue stitching and a dark metallic gloss finish on the interior, elevating its overall appeal.
