You'll learn simple painting techniques that will help you to develop a realistic shape for this beautiful bovine and then add stylistic brush strokes with vibrant colors to create an impressionistic abstract painting of this long haired cute cow on a bright summer or spring day. Maybe your cow is eating some hay, or you could put an eye on for him to look at the camera. You'll learn how to draw a simple outline that will guide you through the painting. This animal is inspired by the Highland cow, which is a Scottish breed of rustic cattle. It originated in the Scottish Highlands and the Outer Hebrides islands of Scotland and has long horns and a long shaggy coat. Maybe your animal is inspired by a different breed of cattle, or maybe you paint it as a dog, cat, or bird... use your imagination to create a unique abstract animal portrait with a fun painterly style! You'll learn how to add dimension in the shape, form and fur of the animal with the use of strategically placed shadows and contour lines that will provide structure to the image. You'll also learn how to layer the colors in an order that doesn't convolute or confuse the visual affects in order to achieve balance and movement in the long locks. The horns will bring a bit of realism to the image with the use of natural colors. With a slight tilt to the head, properly placed features, and the movement of the abundance of curly hair, this sweet looking animal will bring joy to you as he comes to life on your canvas. The soft background color is neutral and complimentary, but you could make yours blue and white to resemble the sky with clouds, or dark to look like the inside of a barn. Acrylic Paint: titanium white, mars black, deep yellow, burnt umber (brown), green oxide, fire red, cobalt blue
Other: #2 pencil, palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. #2 pencil and paper plate – Draw sketch of cow
2. 1/2 inch bristle brush – Paint background with green, yellow and white
3. #8 round brush – Paint horns with black, brown and white
4. #8 round brush – Paint shadow areas and contour lines with black, red and blue
5. #1 round brush – Paint nose and mouth with red, white, yellow, brown and black
6. #8 round brush – Paint main layer of fur with red, yellow, blue, green, white and black
7. #8 round brush – Finish fur with yellow, white, peach (made in step 6), red, yellow and blue
8. #1 round brush – Sign with black
