Jesus tells a parable of 10 virgins, 5 foolish and 5 wise. In His analogy, the bridegroom (Himself) has gone and will return for His bride (represented by the virgins). All of them were meant to wait for His return and to keep their lamps burning through the night while they waited to be ready for His return, but only half did. The foolish virgins requested oil from the wise but the wise could not share their oil or they would not have enough. At the arrival of the Bridegroom it was too late for those who were not ready to go buy more oil and still go out to meet the Lord in time. Jesus welcomes the ones who waited for him but says to those who ran out of oil “I never knew you”
We can trick ourselves into thinking we are doing fine by enjoying the oil and light that Christ has given OTHERS who are spending time with Him. The anointing that they carry is a blessing as it should be, but the Bible says YOU have an anointing from The Holy One also, and this parable reveals The Lord’s desire for those who will steward their own relationship with Him and keep their love burning through the night. You BUY OIL when you choose to spend time in His presence, no one can do that for you, and you can’t take someone else’s oil which they received in their own intimate walk with the Lord. You were made for Him and the people YOU are called to help need your lamp to be shining until they know how to get their own oil too.
