Osteocytes comprise 95% of the bone cells in the adult skeleton and play a crucial role in bone remodeling.
One of their main jobs is to sense mechanical loading, micro-cracks, and microdamage in the bones and communicate with other bone cells to promote bone formation. However, when inflammation or digestive issues are present, osteocytes can express proinflammatory cytokines that increase bone resorption and decrease bone formation.
Providing the proper stimulus and addressing the underlying inflammation is important to building stronger bones. By caring for our bone health, we can ensure a strong and sturdy foundation for our bodies.
