After attending and Watching races at both the Goodwood Members meeting and the Goodwood Revival I achieved a highlight of my Racing by being invited to and Racing at this Glorious circuit. No I didn't win, I didn't come last but I prepared and raced my own car at this prestigious event and I won't forget this in a hurry. Im not apologising for the fact that I will be talking about this for years!
So the circuit itself is very daunting, I went into qualifying having never driven the circuit before! I had a spin (driver error) and really needed another 99 laps! I was slow and was 27th in a grid of 30 cars. However I had just driven at Goodwood!!!.
Race day was very exciting, we were the second race so it was get to the circuit, warm the car and get straight into assembly, the buzz was electric and we were soon out onto the track. The Start was delayed due to a car expiring on the parade lap to the grid. My start from the drop of the flag was ballistic, I overtook 5 cars down to the first corner but due to my lack of driving talent into no name I had lost most of the places back so it was on to Lavant and hoping for a huge tow up the back straight. It's at this point I have forgotten everything about the details and just settled into driving a fantastic car around a fantastic circuit. If I'm honest looking at the in car footage I am slow every where!!
We then had a red Flag....... Every thing stopped, An ambulance was taken to the scene and it took time to rebuild the barriers. It's a very scary thing not knowing what or who. The good news is that the driver is ok and a big shout out to the Doctors and Medical staff that attend every race meeting.. THANK YOU.
The race was restarted and 20 cars took to the grid, for me the race was uneventful, I posted my fastest time albeit a full 12seconds slower than the fastest car, I finished 17th and wasn't lapped, but more importantly I had Raced and finished at Goodwood .
A big thank you to all the Marshalls for attending all our race meetings and thank you to Goodwood and all its staff for putting on a very well organised and enjoyable event.
