For today's tasting we are looking at a white Burgundy from a producer who has long been regarded as one of Burgundy's young rising stars - David Duband. The wine in question is a white Haute Cotes de Nuits from the 2020 vintage. quite a rare wine, but one our Wine Director Dvid Allen MW thinks offers great value for money.
Domaine David Duband is a Burgundy producer based in Chevannes in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits appellation. The domaine produces mainly Pinot Noir wines from 23 prestigious appellations spanning the Côte de Nuits region, from Nuits-Saint-Georges to Gevrey-Chambertin.
The domaine was founded by Pierre Duband in 1963. It was passed on to Duband's son David in 1991, and today is made up of 17 hectares (42 acres) of organically farmed vineyards. Domaine Duband also sources grapes from a select few small winegrowers who share the philosophy of environmentally conscious viticulture.
Since 1991, Domaine David Duband has gradually expanded to encompass numerous Premier Cru vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin. The domaine also makes wines from several grand cru vineyard sites, including Echezeaux, Charmes-Chambertin and Clos de la Roche.
Domaine David Duband employs traditional vinification methods – grapes are harvested by hand and crushed by foot. The Domaine has been farmed organically since 2006. From 2008, the domaine has used a portion of whole grape clusters during maceration to add extra structure and finesse to its range of Pinot Noir wines.
