(3 Oct 2021) Protesters scuffled with police officers on Saturday during a march in Mexico City to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of a massacre of student demonstrators.
The march started in Tlatelolco, where soldiers massacred as many as 300 people at a student protest on October 2, 1968.
During Saturday's march, protesters had set fire to a police shield, causing flames and smoke to rise into the air.
Police officers were then seen using tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
Jose Antonio Rodriguez was a protester who attended the march.
He described the killings 53 years ago as "one of the most barbaric moments in Mexican history."
