Here is a requested update on my Chysis bractescens and a few care tips. This will not be a full care tutorial as it will not be complete, I haven't bloomed this guy yet :)
The Chysis bractescens is a deciduous orchid, this means that it will lose all of its leaves periodically, usually once a year and it wil have bare canes. The flowers will develop from new immature growths at the base of older canes.
As for some care tips, I never let my Chysis go completely bone dry. I fertilize regularly in the growth seasons and when it starts to lose its leaves I cut back on fertilizer quite a lot, though not on water too.
Usually in spring it will send out a new shoot and this is the cue to start fertilizing regularly again. I give this orchid intermediate to warm temperatures and bright light but no direct sunshine.
It doesn't seem to fuss about humidity but there will be drama if not watered in time. Just look at the older canes, when they shrivel it's time to water.
