It is said, expect the unexpected. During the time of landslides and floods in Kerala, my brother had undergone a kidney transplant in August 2018. I could experience the crucial moments in life. We had to take radical decisions, meet the medical needs, face the other technical requirements etc. But God’s providence was with us always. It was completely taken care by His overall protection. The point I want to bring here is the procedure in any organ transplant. We take the old or damaged organ from a person and replace it with the healthy and new organ. Extra care is given for such persons till he or she is in normal condition.
Today we reflect upon the person “Jesus the Redeemer”. It is said, ‘God formed us, sin deformed us but Jesus transformed us’. Yes it is exactly what the Redeemer does. Alphonsus says, ‘Jesus, through his Passion, Death and Resurrection, took the old ways from us and replaced them with new spirit, new vigour and new decisions in life. In Mt 1:22-23 we see,“All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means, “God is with us”. Jesus becomes the hope for the world. He is our Redeemer. The Redemptorists all over proclaim the redemptive love of Jesus Christ. In our ministry, redemption is proclaimed both as deliverance from sin and also God’s call to live in a relationship of love with him.
In the modern world we use the term ‘scrolling’. Scrolling means to check out for something. It is to browse for content. Looking at various pages on a mobile screen can also be mentioned as scrolling. But as we are Catholics, we need to have more of ‘sharing’ than scrolling. Let us have less of scrolling but more of sharing. Sharing is caring. Jesus the Redeemer has exactly done it.
Activity: Kindly visit a sick person.
Question: Do I find time to experience the Redeemer?
Prayer: O Most Blessed Trinity, develop in me values of sharing and caring. Amen.
