Watch the full 2018 Atlantic hurricane season from the formation of Tropical Storm Alberto as a subtropical depression on 25 May to the extratropical transition of Hurricane Oscar on 31 October. These hourly images depict observations from Band 13 on the GOES-16 Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI). Band 13 is an infrared band from which we can estimate cloud-top temperature. All frames were generated in Python by accessing files hosted on Amazon Web Services ([ Ссылка ]). Temperatures are displayed in degrees Celsius corresponding to this colorbar: [ Ссылка ]. The animation itself was created via ffmpeg.

Two names were retired in 2018: Florence and Michael. Florence dumped up to *three feet* of rain in North Carolina; damages in that state alone were estimated around $22 billion (2018 USD; [ Ссылка ]). Michael made landfall as a category 5 and devastated parts of the Florida Panhandle, with total estimated U.S. damage near $25 billion (2018 USD; [ Ссылка ]). Michael's precursor disturbance produced over 22 inches of rain in parts of Central America, where 15 deaths were attributed to freshwater flooding.

In this video, storms are labeled with their name (or number if their intensity never reached 34 kt) anytime their intensity according to maximum 1-minute average wind speed is at least 30 kt and they are designated as tropical or subtropical by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) best track: [ Ссылка ].
