Camozzi dispatched Dan Spohn in the first frame of their fight at BKFC 41. The kickboxing and MMA veteran won his sophomore bout in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship and improved to 2-0 as a bare-knuckle boxer in the process.
This was a particularly sweet one as Camozzi got it done in his hometown. He says he felt amazing and could barely hear Susan Cingari during his post-fight interview. Camozzi has a lot of love for Denver and recognized the partisan crowd’s love for fight sports overall.
Camozzi was not really surprised by Spohn as he was super familiar with him before this fight. That being said, he recognized how game Spohn was an opponent and knew he just had to be better. Chris Camozzi’s BKFC debut was sub-forty seconds and while this second fight was still short, it also gave him a bit more of a chance to feel things out in this sport in live competition.
Camozzi credits his dedication to combat sports as something that saved his life and stopped him from going to prison. He mentioned that he prefers fighting without gloves, is more than familiar with striking using just a balled-up fist, and says it feels normal to him.
In addition to the aforementioned marital arts Camozzi has partaken in, he has also practiced Muay Thai early on. This was showcased by his adeptness in the clinch and how he carried that positional knowledge over to the BKFC ruleset.
In terms of moving forward in the cruiserweight ranks and who he wants to face next, Camozzi went right to the top of the heap when he stated, “Lorenzo Hunt. I’ve already said it every interview. He came up on stage in the back when I said it. Let’s get it. You know, I know he wants to chase
that heavyweight title, but I’m here right now. He hasn’t beat me. He won’t beat me. He might have beat everybody else in the division, but he should be excited that I came here.”
“I’ve got a long career. I’ve been in every top striking organization in the world. Glory, the UFC, PFL. Now I’m here in bare-knuckle. So he has a new challenger.”
When asked how he matches up stylistically against the dual division BKFC titleholder Lorenzo Hunt, Camozzi quipped, “He does have a lot of heart. I mean, look, I’ve been in this game a long time. I’ve never been knocked out. I’ve never been dropped. I don’t plan on starting now.”
