Since 2001, the "Mawazine Rhythms of the World" festival has been the anticipated rendezvous of Moroccan amateur and musical enthusiasts. With over 2 million fans attendingeach of the last editions, it is considered the world's second biggest cultural event and the first of its kind in Africa.
The festival's 16th edition, which lasted from the 12th until the 20th of May this year, featured artists who represented some 40 countries. The festival solidified its reputation as an international event open to world music, with over a hundred concerts spotlightinga variety of songs, dances and rhythms.
The nine-day annual May Mawazine music festival offers a rich and rigorous program, bringing together the world's infamous stars with Arab performances, turning the cities of Rabat and Salé into unique venues between the public and prominent artists.
The festival also promotes values such as peace, broad-mindedness, tolerance and respect, in addition to offering free access to 90% of its concerts, rendering public reach a key goal.
