Two well-known Greek musicians, the composer Nikos Platyrachos and the cellist Jiannis Toulis are meeting and playing together some famous Greek songs for cello and piano.

Combining their rich academic musical education with the musical influences that follow them from their childhoods, Nikos Platyrachos & Jiannis Toulis are creating and signing one colourful atmosphere, which starting from the Greek folk music, unfolds and expands into universal and classical forms, touching even the listener who is not necessarily familiar to the original Greek music. Starting from the roots of rembetika songs that their lyrics and melodies are quite known to all Greeks, they transform them into classic works with an imaginative harmonic transitions and orchestration, into self-luminous “Songs Without Words” (Lieder Ohne Worte).
With this new form, these songs can travel around the glob, carrying only with notes the unchanged communion of the lyrics and melodies, helping in while the global listener to be familiar in his own way.
Alongside the unusual and exotic piano and cello duet, in relation to these songs, takes the lead role and without the characteristic presence of the bouzouki, mitigate the geographical boundaries of the musical language of these songs and the scholarly language that we are used to hear from these classical instruments.
