Including all the week's events
All good things must come to an end so there was no escaping the approach of Dami's Grand Finale weekend which heralded the conclusion of an EPIC first solo national tour for her. Dami's schedule for the past year has been crazy full, but she managed rehearsals in between appearances on TV and even took in the Grand Final ranking announcements for Eurovision when that happened on the morning of her Saturday concerts in Melbourne. Much to everyone's delight, Isaiah Firebrace made Australia proud coming in the top ten. YAY Australia!
A prerecorded show for the announcement of the SBS Eurovision TOP 40 songs of all time had Dami take 1st Place... just incredible... ahead of ABBA... ahead of the old favourite Loreen.... leaving no doubt about our Dami and the fact that she also should have taken the crown at Eurovision last year with her Platinum award winning song 'Sound of Silence'!
The two Melbourne concerts were sensational and full of surprises. Featured guest singer, Dami's Mum Helen Lee blew the roof off with phenomenal vocals matching her daughter's as they sang a duet of 'Climb Every Mountain' and then Helen treated us to an impeccably moving solo performance of 'O Mio Babbino Caro'.
Dami's Grand Finale was held on Mother's Day at Sydney State Theatre and this time she was also accompanied by an 8 piece string Chamber Orchestra giving a very classy atmosphere to the concert. Added to that, Dami took us to a magical place when she played 'Cinema Paradiso' on her violin.
Dami dazzled in her personally designed fringed jumpsuit which swished deliciously for those active songs like 'Don't Leave Me This Way' and was perfect for twisting to 'Smile'. The second half of the concert was devoted to the more classical numbers and for those Dami changed to her slinky, elegant gown.
We were treated to one of the new songs Dami is working on for her next album which left us in no doubt that it will be a sensation!
The end seemed to appear out of nowhere... suddenly, and as for the Melbourne concerts, flowers abounded and many bows amidst cheering and standing ovations. Begging for an encore did get us one but then it was all over, leaving us breathless.
Later, Dami shared an instagram post of Chris Travaglini, the Band's guitar and sax player, crying as he ate his pizza... sad to see their tour come to an end. Although Dami, Michael Tan and others were laughing and teasing Chris... it was hard not to watch Chris without shedding a little tear too.
Congratulations Dami and YOM team!! It was a phenomenal success. Australia wants to see more and soon!!
