Bonded labor has been around in India for centuries and the future looks bleak to impede its growth. Bernadette David's talk peers into a day in the life of slave labor while looking at the Global Supply Chains that feed this system. In ends with some of ideas of how to slow down and hopefully end slavery in our times. Bernadette (Bernie) David, born and raised in the United States and Europe, worked in the mortgage banking division for JP Morgan Chase Bank for 9 years before she changed directions and came to India in 2007. Together with her husband, they work towards making a positive impact in the lives of the less fortunate. This begins with the work of their charity, teaching underprivileged women how to bake and continues through the opportunity of employment into their social enterprise, Spring Street Bakery. Spring Street Bakery, originally founded as TH Bakes in 2009, is a classic American bakery specializing in custom cakes, pies, baked goods and sugar cookies. Through the business, the charity, their community of friends, employees and customers, Bernie hopes to continue to be a voice and to serve those who are less fortunate. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
