Getting motivated to exercise can be challenging. We often have very valid reasons: arthritis, joint pain, muscle soreness, chronic pain, and advanced age are just a few reasons.Taking care of aging parents can be as challenging as it is rewarding. My mom is 89 years old and has multiple health issues, including high blood pressure, two strokes, two knee replacements and mild dementia. However, I knew that she still needed to exercise to feel better but how do I motivate her? In addition, she lives in India and I live in the US. When she came to visit, I purchased her a big print pedometer she could easily wear around her neck to track her steps. She averaged a whopping 300 per day! She was hardly walking at all. We decided to try and increase her daily step count by 10% a day and she really took to it.The Pedometer helped her meet her goal and now that she's back in India, she still uses it daily. Elder care can be very difficult and anything we can do to help our parents stay active and healthy is a huge advantage. Just a simple, but effective trick to try and help people get more active. Please let me know if you have any questions and thanks for watching!
