Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj on April 15. After the killing of gangster brothers, police are on a lookout to nab wife of Atiq, Shaista Parveen, who remains at large . One of the conspirators in Umesh Pal murder case, Shaista carries a reward of Rs 50, 000 on her head. Since the murder of Umesh Pal in Prayagraj, six accused linked to the case have been killed and one has been arrested. With all the accused being killed or in custody, Shaista is on the run for the last two months after gruesome murder of lawyer. Following Ahmed’s death, rumours are at rife that Shaista Parveen, might surrender to attend his husband’s funeral. Notably, Guddu Muslim who is also one of the accused in lawyer’s murder case has been nabbed from Nashik. In the aftermath of the killing of Atiq Ahmed and his brother, the UP government imposed Section 144 in all districts of the State. CM Yogi has constituted a 3-member judicial inquiry and ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter. A large contingent of police has been deployed to avoid any untoward situation in the state.
