Symbolizing protection and victory, the upside down umbrella is an iconic image often used in many cultures to represent victory over one aggressors, the defeat of evil, and the abolishment of negativity. As a tradition used during time of festivals and carnivals celebrating freedom and liberation, the upside down brolly can be seen gliding along a body of water, whether it’s a river, pond, lake or ocean. This design, whether worn as a logo or badge on clothing or as emblematic tattoo on skin, has personal meaning to all those who bare it. This momentous motif knows no boundaries, so join me for this art tutorial and create a meaningful token to your own personal accomplishments. Traditions honor our history, and since we’ve all had to overcome some obstacle in life, whether it’s a fear or phobia, or personal challenge or struggle, there is no better way to pay tribute to one’s achievements than recreating this enriching emblem. In this easy acrylic lesson, you will learn how to paint water, movement, umbrellas, and reflections. Using color theory to guide us through mixing various colors, we'll develop a deep and rich background water reflecting the sky colors that will create a visual balance and draw our attention to our bumbershoots. After drawing, outlining, and applying a base coat to your colorful canopies, you’ll use simple painting techniques to add color contrast, as well as highlights and shadows, to bring them to life with a 3D photo realistic quality allowing for a believable waterscape image of a river, lake, ocean, stream or pond carrying these colorful upside down canvasses with their handles pointing to the sun. This method is so simple, you could easily change your type or style of umbrella into whatever you want; whether it’s a classic, foldable, travel-sized, golf, bubble, parasol, or fashion umbrella. It's not raining in this image, but you could put rain drops, or a floating duck, lanterns, flowers or a rubber duckie drifting alongside the umbrellas. And, of course, you could even change the color of your stunning sunshades to reflect your own personal taste or put reflections of clouds or birds in the water. The point is to just have fun with it and make it your own creation if you want! The peaceful and tranquil mood of this painting holding an underlying deeper personal meaning is surely one that will captivate viewers and create conversation. Using only 3 brushes and 6 colors we'll create this conversational masterpiece. So, let's get painting and let's get sipping!
