A definition and explanation of props and costume.
Props is short for properties - so this is anything that belongs to a character. Usually smaller hand held items such as some flowers for example (not scenery such as chairs and tables).
Costume is anything worn by the character.
Note some occasional items can be both a prop and a piece of costume, depending on how the actor uses it. Like a hat for example, which can be worn or used to gesture hello, or even collect coins.
Suitable for Key Stages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
