Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, together with Nathaniel "Jerry" Matthias, and Henry "Raleigh" Gordon, formed The Maytals in 1962, they soon became very popular as a vocal harmony band.
From Ska, Rocksteady, through to Reggae, Toots & The Maytals are undoubtedly one of the most prolific recording artists to come from Jamaica, having recorded for Clement
'Sir Coxsone' Dodd, Prince Buster, Byron Lee, Leslie Kong, Chis Blackwell, Sly & Robbie....amongst many others. In 1968 Toots is credited with creating the name 'reggae', the word describing the sound and tempo of the riff the guitar plays.
With twigs of funk, rock, and soul, within the branches of the blues, gospel, and folk,
yet 'budded', and uniquely 'ripened', to fruit Jamaican Reggae...
Toots and the Maytals are a foundation to the history of Jamaican music.
On National Heroes Day October the 16th 2012, Kingston, Jamaica.
Frederick Hibbert (born 8 December 1942), better known as "Toots"
received the distinguished Order of Jamaica.

Reggae Got Soul is the 7" 45RPM single taken from the album of the same
name - Reggae Got Soul, released in 1976. The song also appeared on the Reggae Greats - Island Records series, released in 1985. (The singles B-Side; Dog War, is a reggae version of the early ska track Broadway Jungle!)

Hammersmith Palais London.
