A very disturbing article released today by Africa Geographic tells of 2 super tuskers being killed in the last few months in Northern Tanzania (just south of Amboseli National Park).
The article ([ Ссылка ]) gives all the details of the legal hunt lead by two different outfitters just a few months apart.
There are only 50-100 super tuskers left in the world. The unnecessary loss of two of them is a massive blow to elephant conservation efforts.
While I truly believe all of wildlife is valuable - and let's not get into hunting for this one - super tuskers being so rare are even that much more important to elephant populations:
1. They pass down their genes to other elephants (the length of tusks is passed down in genes)
2. These older bulls are mentors to younger bulls - showing the younger bulls the ropes after they leave their family herds.
I'm so disheartened about this killings. If you love wildlife or are a wildlife photographer and enjoy seeing wild animals in the wild, please go to the link and make a productive comment.
Perhaps if we all raise our voices, Tanzania will see that this type of hunting will not be tolerated and will make some changes.

How do you feel about the killings of 2 beautiful super tusker elephants? Are you as enraged as I am?
Update: A third super tusker was killed. A 4th hunt is underway. If you want to help, please sign the petition:
