Here's a letter we received from one of our viewers. Really good questions and great information:
You presented the pros and cons fairly. After reviewing you presentation I really couldn't see too many cons. A lot of shops cut corners on many paint jobs done with other materials, they often don't stand up that good anyway. The pros of Lacquer are many. The biggest glaring weakness is that OEM colors are not available in the quart containers (Paint Shop). Just spray cans I believe.
Because of your vast experience I wonder if you would consider answering a few questions I have?
1. Can you mix Lacquers like black and white to get grey? Grey is a common color. Other colors?
2. Can you blend Lacquer paint (base and clear) into an existing base/clear? I am working on a black 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with rust over rear wheel wells. After I put in the repair patch I would like to blend into the factory paint on the box that's still very good. Can that be done or will I need to paint the entire bed side with Lacquer?
3. Are you aware if the Duplicolor (Pant Shop) paints will ever expand color choices?
4. Could any Lacquer based primer work for the Paint Shop material?
David if you have a moment I would really value your input. I would also like to say I have watched many of your videos and they were all excellent. The handy everyday man stuff is really of value to me. The refurbishing of the door panels was just great. Love that stuff. Keep up the good work, it's terific. Thanks again David!

Trish here. We have read your email with deep gratitude. We're flattered beyond belief. We're thankful for the time you have taken to express such kind words. Thank you for acknowledging the time and effort that we put into our videos. You've asked some poignant questions and with that, I'll let David handle the technical stuff.
1) Yes, all lacquer colors can be intermixed to produce any other color or shade you wish as long as you are using a compatible paint line from one manufacturer.
2) Even though your existing paint is in very good shape it is definitely sun faded over time. Getting an exact match will be very difficult. I would recommend painting the entire side to get a good color match.
3) I do not know if they will. However, www.tcpglobal.com has virtually unlimited color choices in lacquer paint.
4) Yes, you can use any lacquer based primer.
